Lau Praises Government for Developments

Lau yesterday praised the Fiji- First Government for development projects in the province.

Thirteen district representatives or mata-ni-tikinas thanked the Government during the Lau Provincial Council meeting at Tubou Village, Lakeba.

They expressed their appreciation especially for the developments in the remote islands.

Lau Province has 13 districts comprising 72 villages.

The district representatives expressed their gratitude in the presence of the Commissioner Eastern Luke Moroivalu and Assistant Minister for iTaukei Affairs Selai Adimaitoga.

Wate Soko, the Yadrana District representative, thanked the Ministry of Agriculture for the variety of crop seedlings supplied to the farmers of Lakeba.

Moala Tikina representative Ratu Taito Draunidalo also acknowledged the Government for the various development assistance that has been given to them.

Totoya District representative Josateki Temo said that the solar power project which had brightened up the four villages had greatly benefited the villagers.

He said it had transformed their lives.

Some tikina representatives thanked Telecom Fiji for providing VTSAT communication in their schools. It has enabled their students and teachers to access the internet and social media.

Mrs Adimaitoga stood in for Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and opened the meeting.

Mr Bainimarama could not make it to Lakeba because of rough seas. The newest navy ship, the RFNS Kacau, carrying him, had to turn back to Suva.

Another vessel, carrying vehicles, support staff and media representatives including Fiji Sun’s managing editor special projects, Maika Bolatiki, had to shelter in Moala overnight before proceeding to Tubou arriving there yesterday afternoon.

The meeting will end tomorrow.
