Fiji National Sports Commission chairman Peter Mazey believes former sportsmen and sportswomen should try to become Physical Education (PE) teachers after retiring.
Mazey made the comments during the Fiji National Sports Commission submission to the Standing Committee on Social Affairs.

“One of the sad part in Fiji is what do we offer sports people when they finish their career,” he said.

“In the past we’ve forgotten some except during the annual sports awards when we recognise their achievements.

“The papers we got, is to encourage government. We don’t have PE teachers in schools really but we do have PEMAC (Physical Education, Music and Art and Craft) many are just focusing on MAC.

“We need to train these teachers and I believe it’s important for these players to come back after playing 7s or whatever sports, as they will be ideal for PE teachers.”
