Sigatoka Man Facing Drug Charge

A man of Sigatoka appeared at the High Court in Suva yesterday charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

Mohammed Ramzan appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar.

It is alleged that Ramzan had in his possession 5.5 kilograms of cannabis sativa, an illicit drug, on November 27, 2017, at Sigatoka.

Ramzan is also charged with one count of breach of bail conditions.

It is alleged that Ramzan without reasonable cause, breached his bail condition not to re-offend.

Ramzan’s lawyer was not present in court during the proceedings; however, the State Prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Swastika Sharma sought time to file information and disclosures.

Justice Goundar granted the State 21 days to file and serve the information and disclosures.

He also told the accused to bring his lawyer to the court on his next court date.

The case was adjourned to May 22 for plea.

Bail was further extended for the accused.
