Minister for Youth and Sports Parveen Bala officially opened the 29th Vodafone Fiji FACT tournament at Churchill Park, Lautoka yesterday.

Bala paid tribute to the veteran football players who were present and also congratulated the Fiji Football Association for the 29th year of the tournament.

“This tournament is an important one in the sporting calendar of Fiji Football,” he said.

“I’m sure it is also for many soccer fans around the country as it is the first major tournament in the Fiji Football calendar.

“The Fiji FACT tourney has, in its 29 years of existence, brought together sportsmen and sportswomen from districts across the nation and in our diverse communities.”

Bala also wished the eight district teams well for the weekend games.

The semi-finals and final will be played next weekend with the venue yet to be decided.

Rewa 3-0 Nasinu, Labasa 1-1 Suva, Lautoka 8-1 Tavua, Ba v Nadi (was yet to be played last night when this edition went to press).
