Dr Philadelfia Ngarua braved being away from his family in the Cook Islands for long periods of time as he tried to complete his postgraduate diploma.

His perseverance paid off when he received his postgraduate diploma in health services management yesterday.

“I came here to learn so that I will be helpful to my people,” Dr Ngarua said.

The hardest thing he had to overcome during his time at university was being away from his family, but he was grateful for the opportunity he had to make new friends in Fiji.

He plans to return home on Monday and put his diploma to use.

“I’m ready to go home and serve my people,” he said.
