The Suva football team thanked their lucky stars when striker Gagame Feni scored their equalising goal as they held Labasa 1-1 at Churchill Park, Lautoka last night.

The Babasiga Lions took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute when midfielder Ilisoni Logaivau slammed in their lone goal.

But their joy was short-lived when Feni slotted in the equaliser in the 24th minute.

Comments: Suva coach Saroj Kumar said: “We had many chances but we missed them. I have to work on our defence and midfielders as well.

“The players know their roles but they are not sticking to it. I’ve to remind them to play their role so that we can move forward.

“Tomorrow is a hard game against Tavua and I know Tavua will come out strong because I was their coach before.”

Labasa manager Nilesh Lal said: “We had a good game and we never underestimated Suva.

“We scored first and we should have maintained our shape in defence but Suva had other options and they equalised.

“But looking at the game we had some weaknesses and we will go back to camp and let the coach draw up a new game plan for tomorrow against Lautoka.”
