Single mother Mereani Bati stood tall and proud as she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She is now qualified to teach at secondary level.

She graduated from the Fiji National University on Wednesday.

Hailing from Mabula Village in Cicia, Lau, and with maternal links to Makadru, Matuku, Lau, Ms Bati was happy that all her hard work had finally paid off.

She recently took her posting as a teacher to Nadogo Central College in Vanua Levu.

“I feel happy and blessed because I am now a fully-qualified teacher,” said Ms Bati.

As a mother to two children, Ms Bati recalls all the hardship she went through.

“There were days where I had to face financial difficulties in terms of my fare to attend my classes and looking after my kids, but I thank God for my family for being supportive and always having my back,” said Ms Bati.

“I dedicate this achievement to both my paternal and maternal families especially my grandparents who are in Lautoka. They have always helped me out while I was juggling with school and my kids,” Ms Bati said.

“For me this is just the beginning. I will work, but will continue studying just to upgrade my qualification.”

Ms Bati says her kids are her source of strength and motivation every day.

“We face challenges every day. My advice for those studying is to manage and sacrifice your time and to always dedicate your life to God for guidance and protection.”
