Nadi bounced back to beat defending Vodafone Fiji FACT champions Rewa 2-1 at Churchill Park, Lautoka yesterday.

The toast of Nadi’s win was striker Rusiate Matererega who rifled in their winning goal. Matererega almost made it 3-1 when he missed another sitter right on full-time.

After losing their pool opener 3-0 to Ba on Friday night, Nadi fans went on a frenzy when Josua Tawake slammed in their first goal against Rewa as they led 1-0 at halftime.

But Rewa struck back in the second half when Jonetani Buksh slotted in the equaliser before Matererega struck later into the second half.

Comments: Nadi coach Pranesh Amarsee said: “We had lost to Ba and it was a big blow to us because we came all prepared but all the quick goals just hurt our spirit. Despite coming back to beat Rewa, I’m still not because we need to lift our game and win the Fiji FACT.

“We are taking one game at a time and our next game is against Nasinu and it will be tough for us.”

Rewa coach Pita Rabo said: “Well I guess there is no other way but to win our next game. We will have to win against Ba which is a key game for us. The game against Nadi did not go the way we had wanted, but we still have another game at hand for us.

I know my boys are ready. We are down to our bench players as one got a suspected dislocated shoulder and is out of the tournament. We are left with three reserve players, but I believe in the boys that they can bounce back and win against Ba.”
