The Cakaudrove rugby women’s team recorded their second win in the Vodafone Vanua Championship after they beat Ovalau 24-22 at Nasau Park, Levuka yesterday.

Speaking to SUNsports coach Ana Seru said the Cakaudrove women’s side are made-up of students from Holy Cross in Taveuni, Saqani, Navatu, Napuka and other parts of the province.

“For training we all meet in Savusavu every Saturday and have a two-hour session before returning home,” she said.

“For this first term holidays we trained for one week before we came over to play in Ovalau. For me it’s all about developing our female players.”

Seru said her players are all under the age of 18 and they are vying for a spot in the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s and XVs teams.

‘For now we’re preparing for a tour to New Caledonia in July and Wallis and Futuna in August to play in their sevens competition. We’ve received an invitation to go over and play and we are looking forward to it,” she added.

In the Under-19 Ovalau beat Cakaudrove 26-5 while in the main competition Ovalau thrashed Cakaudrove 33-0.
