Bus experience

The Land Transport Authority needs to look closely at some buses that pick up people from Nadi International Airport and take them to Suva.

An American couple travelling separately on different days recounted similar experiences.

The wife, who arrived earlier, had decided to try out the Fijian experience by travelling in a bus to Suva last Tuesday.

At Sigatoka, the bus broke down.

She and other passengers had to wait a while before they left the bus and boarded another bus.

Yesterday her husband decided to catch a bus to Suva after arriving at Nadi.

The bus broke down on the Coral Coast.

Some of his fellow tourists panicked when they saw and smelt smoke.

There was fear there might be a fire.

But they were assured it was to do with the brakes.

When he finally arrived in Suva, about two hours late, he was thoroughly exhausted.

Any suggestion of a visit to the supermarket or a quick look at Suva City was postponed to today.

He was so tired he just wanted to hit the bed.

As he reunited with his wife, they were surprised that the buses, though from different companies, suffered the same fate.

But they were relived they made it and they are safe.

They can’t wait to see and experience the rest of Fiji.

Their bus experience has not put them off their plans to bus around.

They plan to travel around Suva in buses today.

Their first impression of Fiji: “Beautiful.”

Let’s hope they don’t encounter another bus breaking down.
