A ruthless Labasa took no prisoners yesterday as they hammered Tavua 8-1 in the Vodafone Fiji FACT at Churchill Park, Park.

The northerners came into the match needing a win to stay alive in the competition and were strong from the start.

Tavua, who have conceded 22 goals in their three matches, had little to offer and did not play like a team that deserves to be in the Super Premier division.

They earlier lost 8-2 to Lautoka and 6-1 to Suva.

Siotame Kubu led Labasa with three goals, the first of which he scored in 12th minute, before hitting one more in the 19th and his hat-trick – Labasa’s 6th goal – in the 64th .

Two goals from Napilioni Qasevakatini and one each to Ravinesh Karan Singh, Ilisoni Logaivou and Lekima Gonerau further cemented Labasa’s win.

At half time led Labasa 4-0.

COMMENTS

Labasa team manager Nilesh Lal said: “We came with the determination to score as many goals as possible to qualify and keep our chances alive.

“The boys played to the game plan. We had six goals and then more as the opportunities came and the boys capitalised.”
