Vatuvonu School Name Sparks Confusion

The different names of one particular school run by a religious organisation at Vatuvonu in Cakaudrove Province have stirred some confusion.
Seventh-Day Adventist Church general secretary Joe Talemaitoga said when the school was registered it was called Vatuvonu Adventist High School.
When asked which year the school was registered at the Ministry of Education office, he said he was not aware.
“The school was run by an executive committee of Seventh-Day Adventist Church Fiji over the years,” Mr Talemaitoga said.
“That is why when we issue a press release we use the name Vatuvonu Adventist High School.”
When Fiji Sun contacted the school principal, Epi Raikivi, he said the school sign board had the name printed as Vatuvonu Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) College.
He further revealed that the curricular they were receiving from the Ministry of Education typed the name of the school as Vatuvonu Secondary School.
When the Ministry of Education office in Savusavu was contacted, one of the education officers said according to their school list for the Cakaudrove Province they know the name of the school as Vatuvonu SDA College before, but it was later changed to Vatuvonu College.
The new interim committee, which was formed last month after the school management decided to close down the school confirmed that they know the name of the school as Vatuvonu SDA College.
The interim committee manager, Samu Saumatua, yesterday said they would follow the name given by the Ministry of Education.
