Climate Activists Welcome Proposed Pacific Resilience Fund

A young climate activist has welcomed news of a new multi-billion-dollar fund for climate change resilience, but says climate grants and funding to Pacific nations needs better tracking through a social accountability mechanism.

Pacific Islands Climate Action Network co-ordinator, Jenny Jiva told Pacific journalists during a regional media dialogue for the upcoming FEMM Ministerial meeting that many have experienced natural disasters such as cyclones and sea level rise, “and many were devastated from it.”

“Climate finance is a matter of climate justice in the Pacific,” she says, adding the issue will be highlighted by civil society activists who are to present their positions on a proposed a new Pacific Resilience Facility (PRF), at the Forum Economic Ministers Meeting (FEMM).

She welcomed the plans to enhance partnerships with civil society through the PRF, and the plans for Pacific nations to also put funds into the facility.
