Thank God, the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team management is assessing the medical reports of injured players this weekend before coach Gareth Baber announces his squad for the London and Paris 7s.

We cannot afford to take any injured player to this crucial leg of the 2018/2019 HSBC World Sevens Series. Even those with a 50:50 chance of recovering should not be included at all.

The injuries on key playmaker Waisea Nacuqu (fractured collarbone) and Isoa Tabu (fractured wrist) should be closely monitored before a decision is made.

But what will make the situation much easier is if the players themselves do own up if they feel they are 100 per cent up to it.

Although we are three points behind the Series leaders USA, we still stand a very good chance of scooping the top spot.

And for that to happen, we need to win both tournaments or if not we can still at least win one tournament and reach the Cup final in the other.

Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor said these are the only best ways to win the Series rather than relying on other circumstances.

For the Paula Dranisinukula-captained side every team they play should always be deemed as a threat.

Right now they should not worry about USA, but instead focus on their pool opponents of Samoa, France and Kenya.

Barring upsets, if the Fijians qualify for the Cup quarterfinals then they should meet either New Zealand or England, which is going to be a much tougher task.

They should learn from the Singapore 7s where we reached the Cup quarterfinals through Canada who beat Scotland and denied their chances of qualifying ahead of us.

Let’s take each game one at a time and surely enough we the abundance of talent we have we’ll surely get there.
