“Youth engagement happens when young people have sustained connections anywhere in their life.

It can happen throughout the lives of children and youth, including within themselves, in the immediate world around them, throughout society in general, and across the entirety of the world.

The sustained connections they make can be emotional, psychological, or cognitive and can happen personally and socially.”

These were the sentiments shared by Ignite4Change President Broderick Mervyn at the two day training on the Pacific Entrepreneurial Ecosystems Convening held at the USP-UNDP Innovation Hub.

This training was organized by UNDP, USP, ILO and the Australian Aid.

He stated that the purpose of this training was to take advantage of the opportunity to bring key stakeholders from around the region together for a discussion about entrepreneurship-focused programmes and to develop with these stakeholders a regional strategy for fostering entrepreneurship and innovation, particularly among the youth, that would then be socialized at the regional events.

In this way, the events were a platform for engaging governments, multilaterals and others with the strategy, and gaining broader support utilizing the USP-UNDP Innovation Hub and co-working space at the University of the South Pacific.

Alanieta Mataitoga, one of the participants in attendance acknowledged the USP-UNDP Innovation Hub for providing this unique opportunity to be part of the two-day training but also to advocate for the potential of youth entrepreneurship as a force for sustainable social and economic development.
