Minimum Wage Review To Begin Soon

Minimum wage review is expected to start in two weeks.
This was highlighted by the Minister for Employment Parveen Bala in Parliament yesterday.
Mr Bala said there would be no doubt that it would provide the basis for an informed and sustainable formula for wages growth.
“I know that all Fijians will appreciate the results of the review and what it offers to them,” he said.
He added that the minimum wage review would establish a sustainable minimum wage range which would provide the platform for the stability of work and would lead to more job creation.
Mr Bala also clarified queries raised by Opposition members in regards to the essential services and China Railway Group Five.
He said the Government had engaged with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and had agreed to the technical assistance “so it is wrong to say that the Government has made no effort”.
On the China Railway Group Five, Mr Bala said the Ministry did receive complaints from the workers and those matters were still under investigations for payments of overtime, meal allowance and sick leave.
He added that the Ministry has already taken steps to clear the backlog on the workers compensation cases and to ensure that all the annual reports include some details on the audited financial statements.
