A water pipe burst on Friday that caused a water leak at a section of Suva’s Colonial War Memorial Hospital was speedily fixed by Water Authority of Fiji workers.

The incident was confirmed yesterday by a staff worker at the hospital, who wished to remain anonymous when interviewed by Fiji Sun yesterday.

WAF corporate communications officer Peni Shute said: “WAF’s prompt response in rectifying the issue at the CWM Hospital was critical as we strive to provide continued and consistent water supply to essential services such as the CWM.”

Some photos of the incident were also posted on Facebook, showing staff from the hospital mopping the wet floor.

“When the pipe burst, water started to leak into the hospital’s lower level at the emergency centre,” the staff member told Fiji Sun.

“It did not hinder the services at the hospital because the nurses and doctors were still able to take care of the patients, while the WAF workers got the situation under control.”

What caused the burst or how it started is still not clear.

Questions sent last night to the Minister of Health and Medical Services, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete, were not unanswered when this edition went to press.
