Fiji Budget 2019: Connecting People To Water

Water Authority of Fiji has been investing heavily on projects to achieve its vision “Clean Water & Sanitation for a Better Life. Since the beginning of WAF, the authority had yearly carried out rural and capital project works to better the service and to have a state of the art facility in the coming years.”
WAF’s footprint around the country is greatly increasing as more requests continue to flood in from new customers and for the expansion of their services to new areas.
“The investment by the Fijian Government in the Water and waste water sector over the last 5 years has significantly increased. In doing so, the Fijian government is showing its responsiveness to its responsibility to meet standards, demands and also compliance for water and waste water.
“Increasing its operational efficiency through the reduction of Non-Revenue-Water (NRW) from 52 per cent to 32 per cent nationwide is one of the areas that the WAF is able to effectively address through the increase in its capital budget allocation by Government.”
One of the major projects was the Rural Water Supply Programme, of which $27 million was allocated.
In the current financial year, WAF has expanded its services by giving provisions for new meter connections.
