REGISTRATION SCAM

The need for co-ordination and a working database was highlighted when a woman who gave birth in Suva was able to register her child in three different locations. This allowed her to collect $1000 at each of the locations.

This is the assistance provided by Government to mothers of all newborn babies. And while a registration app is available, not all are able to access this. Digitising Government records and centralising it would help.

HELP FOR SQUATTERS NOT ENOUGH

Residents of a squatter settlement in Nausori that has been given assistance from the Government want more to be done for them. Land with a 99-year lease is currently being developed for the squatters and, with it, electricity, water and the tarsealing of roads.

However, this may not be enough because residents then proceeded to ask the A-G to provide driveways. Talk about grabbing the arm when given a finger.

PUBLIC SPAT ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Talk about hanging your dirty laundry in public. An apparent spat between two women fighting over a man has hit the attention of many on social media. Name calling is just the tip of the iceberg. Not that everyone needs to see what one does in personal life, the man in question sure must be a catch for the two women to dare a public display of affection towards him and not so much towards each other

CREDIT CARD SURCHARGE

It has been almost one year since the 2018-2019 Budget was passed. Seems the message has not reached Tavua. A particular store is still surcharging customers for using credit cards. The Government wants Fijians to embrace electronic forms of payment and this supermarket’s action is contradicting this.
