Magistrate warns 3 women not to distract proceedings

Three women in Labasa Magistrate Court were warned by Magistrate Seini Puamau to stop distracting the court proceedings yesterday.

Saiyad Ali charged with assault causing actual bodily harm (ACABH) was asked by Magistrate Puamau if he had engaged a legal counsel.

He replied that he would seek assistance from Legal Aid Commission.

Then she asked if he had received disclosures.

During this time his three relatives who were seated on the bench raised their voice, saying the papers was with them.

Magistrate Puamau warned them saying during court proceedings no one on the bench was allowed to talk because this would disturb her work and she might not be able to deliver the right decision.

Hence, she added next time if anyone talks inside the court house or raises their voice when not asked to will be charged with contempt of court.

The case for Mr Ali has been adjourned for mention on June 17.
