IWF Junior World Championship: Learning Experience For Lifters

Galoa, Serua native Nasila lifted a total weight of 70kg in the snatch, 97kg in the clean and jerk with a total lift of 167kg while Lomary Secondary School student Maloni Sadranu lifted 60kg in the snatch, 75kg in the clean and jerk and a total lift of 135kg.

Samuela Nasila, Maika Taukeinikoro and Maloni Sadranu made their debut at the 2019 IWF Junior World Championships at the FMF National Gymnasium yesterday.

The trio participated in the men’s 61kg category, Group B yesterday and have all achieved their personal best.

Galoa, Serua native Nasila lifted a total weight of 70kg in the snatch, 97kg in the clean and jerk with a total lift  of 167kg  while Lomary Secondary School student Maloni Sadranu lifted 60kg in the snatch, 75kg in the clean and jerk and a total lift of 135kg.

Wainimakutu, Namosi native Maika Taukeinikoro grabbed his personal best in the snatch with the lift of 60kg, 75kg in clean and jerk with a total of 132kg.

Nasila, 21, said: “There is a lot of learning we can take out from here, especially getting our techniques and basics right. This is my first competition and I’m happy to be able to deliver the expected result.

“I want to thank my families, friends and my coach for all their support,” Nasila said.

Vashist Muni College student Taukeinikoro was happy with his new PB in the snatch.

“I had a new PB in the snatch and I want to thank God for the strength and giving me the opportunity to represent my country.”

Namakomako, Macuata native Sadranu believes now that he has overcome his first hurdle, it has given him confidence for future competitions.

“This was my first competition, this has taught me a lot more confidence and come the next competition I will be able to be in top four or even win medals,” Sadranu said.
Gold For Turkey

Meanwhile Gocmenogly Yusuf of Turkey won gold in the same category with a lift of 132kg and Yudi Huang of China won the clean and jerk with a total lift of 155kg.
