Fiji men and women teams both lose in the 2019 Punjas Pacific Nations Cup finals at Nadovu Park, Lautoka yesterday. .

The men lost to Tahiti 2-1.

In the first singles Heimanarii Lei San beat Raynal Singh 6-0, 6-0 while Heve Kelly lost to William O’Connell 6-3, 6-3 in the second singles.

In the doubles Ridge Chung/Heve Kelly beat William O’Connell/Raynal Singh 6-3,6-3.

Team Fiji captain O’Connell said: “We came through a tough competition to reach the final. It was a good match. We have gauged ourselves well for the Pacific Games and we need to work harder.”

Tahiti’s Kelly said: “It was good tournament.”

Samoa beats Fiji women

The Fiji women lost to Samoa 2-1, with Anais Saipele beating Ruby Coffin 6-1, 6-1 in the first singles.

However, in the second singles match, Saoirse Breen caused an upset as she beat tournament No.1 seed Eleanor Schuster 6-4, 6-2.

In the doubles Penina Kamu/Schuster beat Breen/Coffin 6-1, 4-6, 1-0.

Schuster said: “It was a good match and happy to win the title. I thank Tennis Fiji and Tennis Samoa for the support.”

The Nations Cup Pacific is being attended by regional players from Samoa, Northern Marianas, Tahiti, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Fiji, Federated States of Micronesia, Vanuatu, Cook Islands, Norfolk Islands, Nauru, Solomon Islands, and American Samoa.
