Live Test Of Tsunami Siren Tomorrow, Use It To Test Evacuation Procedure

The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) in collaboration with the Seismology Unit of the Department of Mineral Resources will be conducting a live test of all the tsunami sirens on the 5th of June, 2019 at 10am and continue until 11am the same day.

This test is part of Government’s commitment towards improving its state of readiness for any tsunami event and also to ensure that the sirens are in working conditions. The tsunami sirens are currently installed in the following locations:

 

 

1. Water Authority of Fiji – Kinoya Sewerage Plant

2. FINTEL – Vatuwaqa

3. RFMF Officers Training School – Vatuwaqa

4. USP Statham Campus

5. USP Lower Campus

6. USP Main Campus

7. My Suva Park

8. Government Training Centre – Nasese

9. I Taukei Trust Fund Board Office – Nasese

10. Civic Car Park Rooftop

11. Government Shipping Services – Walu Bay

12. Biosecurity Suva Operation Office – Renown Street (near Suva Bus Station)

13. Lami Town.

 

The NDMO wishes to advise the general public that evacuation IS NOT required.

However communities and businesses are urged to use this exercise to identify and test their evacuation procedures following their designated safe routes to the safe assembly areas/zones. In addition, it is equally important for the public to get acquainted with the sound of the tsunami early warning sirens. Should you have any further enquiries, please call the NDMO on 3385348.
