Fiji’s Health Ministry Rules Out Flu As Cause Of US Couple’s Death

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has ruled out influenza as the cause of the tragic deaths of US tourists David Paul and his wife Michelle.
In a statement released to the media earlier today they said they do not believe there is any risk to the general public. They also said that it would be premature to speculate further on the cause of death until investigations are complete.
The Health Ministry is also monitoring a small number of staff and health workers who were in close contact with the deceased couple as a precaution.
The Ministry is coordinating with the US Embassy in Fiji and working closely with the Fiji Police Force’s forensics department, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United States’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to determine the cause of death, with these organisations providing technical support.
