Construction Industry Is One Of The Key Indicators Of Our Economy

The construction industry is one of the key drivers of the economy.

As such it must be taken seriously. It is often used as a performance indicator for our economy.

When there is a building boom we know the economy is doing well because it is inter-connected with other industries.

To build a house you need experienced builders and a whole range of tradespeople with specialised skills.

You will need transport, materials and even food and drinks.

This industry’s enormous contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and economic development goes beyond boarders because it has direct influence through construction activity.

It is linked to other industries such as transport, wholesale and retail trade etc.

With this in mind, next week, is the second Construction Industry Council (CIC) Conference where issues confronting the construction industry will be addressed.

It will be held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva. Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism Premila Kumar will open the trade show on Thursday.

The Attorney-General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, will open the Conference tomorrow.

The level of speakers and topics lined up by the council has been selected to explore these major issues that affect operations in the industry.

Issues include licensing, standards, OHS, education and training, insurance, as well as the resolutions introduced by delegates to last year’s conference.

It is hoped that many of those associated with the industry will take the opportunity to attend the conference and learn new ideas.
