A businessman who assaulted his wife after finding her chatting with a man on Facebook at 12.45am received a suspended sentence at the Labasa Magistrates Court.

Yogendra Naidu, 34, represented by Kohli and Singh staff solicitor Reema Raj, appeared before Magistrate Seini Puamau last Friday charged with assault causing actual bodily harm (ACABH) and pleaded guilty.

The incident happened on June 8, 2017, after this incident his wife left him and married with another man. He was warned not to reoffend within two years.

Meanwhile, a Labasa technician who broke louvres at his girlfriend’s house has been fined $150 by Labasa Magistrates Court.

Praneel Prakash, 27, was charged with one count criminal trespass and one count damaging property.

On August 21, 2018, Prakash broke seven louvres at Jai Wati’s house while under the influence of alcohol. The complainant woke up and later saw him in the compound instructing her daughter to switch on her mobile phone.

Gripped with fear she called the Police. For first count he was told to pay $50 before June 28 otherwise he would be imprisoned for 40 days.

The case has been adjourned for review of fine on June 28.
