The AY1 Northland rugby team have filed a complaint to the Fiji Rugby Union disputing the calculation of points that determines the Skipper Cup Premiership points table standing.

The decision to go ahead with their protest was made after a Northland Rugby Union meeting that was attended by club executives yesterday.

Speaking to SUNsports, Northland Rugby vice-president Livai Dreu confirmed that they have sent an official complaint to FRU as they were disappointed with the blunder made.

“The reason for our meeting with the executives was to take a diplomatic approach to FRU and to discuss a few points on the issue and we will review the outcome later,” he said.

Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor last night said the Northland Rugby officials had met with their operations team at Rugby House where they had dropped their letter.

“I will look into it tomorrow,” he said.

Dreu alleged that there was a miscalculation and an extra point was given to Tailevu for a match that happened a month ago, which he claimed was not according to the competition laws.

“However, we don’t know how they picked up that extra point. It’s just an inconsistency of how the calculation was done.

“During round six of the competition an official points table was released by FRU where we were ranked on the 5th position and Tailevu was sitting on 8th so when they drew with Naitasiri they should have gained two points.

“We just want to approach FRU not for Northland but for the betterment of how rugby competitions are organised in the country,” Dreu added.

In accordance to FRU’s points table, Northland and Tailevu finished with 11 points while Tailevu had a better points average.

At the current standing, Northland and Rewa are relegated to next year’s Vodafone Vanua Championship.
