Suva’s Hibiscus Festival, dubbed the mother of all festivals, will no longer have a familiar face heading its operations.

Hibiscus Events Group Incorporated executive chair Hirdesh Prasad and his group will not be part of the 2019 Hibiscus Festival.

Mr Prasad when approached for a comment opted not to comment on the issue.

The Fiji Sun has been reliably informed that Mr Prasad is no longer at the helm.

It is believed that the Ministry of Local Government had intervened in the matter.

Suva Retailers Association has also opted not to comment.

However, last week members of the association and sponsors were seen sizing up the Suva Grammar School Grounds as a possible next venue for the biggest festival in the nation.

Fiji Sports Council (FSC) facilities will not be available as the festival venue this year with work being done on the Vodafone Arena and unavailability of the FMF Gymnasium.

The FSC has hosted the event after Suva City Council closed its doors on the festival venue after the $16million upgrade of the Albert Park – which had been the home of the annual festival.
