Three Arrests Over Attacks, Property Damage

Three people have been arrested and charged with alleged damage of property and attack at Benau Settlement, Labasa.
This was confirmed by Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro yesterday.
“Since the incident was reported last month Police have been patrolling the area day and night,” she said.
“Police managed to arrest four people and one was charged with sacrilege and produced in the Labasa Magistrates Court.”
Meanwhile, the residents claim that they once again lived in fear because they have been threatened recently.
Bal Krishna had worship items stolen from his temple and said his brother Ram Krishna’s vehicle was damaged last month and he was assaulted on Tuesday night in his compound.
“My brother, who is currently unemployed, was walking in his compound around 6pm when someone came from behind and hit his head and face with something,” Mr Krishna said.
“He looked around and the person fled.
He immediately reported the matter at Labasa Police Station.”
Tranzil Shah, a carpenter, said no one had the courage to walk on the road or come out of the house after 6pm.
“If we go out from the house to a nearby shop to buy something there is great chance someone will hit us,” Mr Shah said.
“The alleged suspect, whom we know by face, returned from Labasa Correction Centre after serving his sentence and is believed to be the leader of a group.
“We have complained about this to Police and are waiting for something to be done.”
