The case of a 27-year-old farmer charged with the murder of his pregnant partner last Friday, has been transferred to the High Court in Suva.

Mosese Sigabalavu Koroi appeared before Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa yesterday, charged with one count of murder of his 23-year-old partner, Seini Boletawa.

It is alleged that Koroi assaulted his pregnant partner at a home in Nasese, Suva.

Ms Boletawa was rushed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police prosecutor Corporal Sanil Kumar had served the full phase disclosures to the accused and the court.

He told the court that the matter was an indictable offence.

Defence lawyer from the Legal Aid Commission Abhishek Patel told the court that Koroi had claimed he was receiving threatening calls of being assaulted at the Suva Remand Centre and requested for proper security for the accused.

Magistrate Boseiwaqa did not issue any special orders, however, he had noted the concern in the file and transferred the matter to the High Court.

He told Koroi to file a notice of alibi if he wished to and make a formal bail application at the High Court.

Koroi was remanded in custody and the matter was adjourned for First Call at the High Court on June 26.
