Another Fijian In Queen’s Birthday Honours List

The family of a Fijian soldier serving in the British Army is proud of his achievement.
Major Taitusi Kagi Saukuru has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
He will be awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire.
He is from the Royal Logistic Corps and is among 65 regular and reserve soldiers and officers of the British Army who are being recognised this year.
Major Saukuru was educated at Vuda District School and completed his secondary education at Queen Victoria School before he joined the British Army.
His father was from Korovuto in Nadi and his mother from Viseisei in Lautoka. They have passed away.
The soldier was brought up in Viseisei Village.
His cousin Salitoni Kagi yesterday said the family was proud of his achievement.
“The family and the Vanua of Navatulevu, Na Matavuvale Vunisei, Na Turaga na Tui Vuda are so proud of the great achievement of Tai,” he said.
“He has represented the vanua where he was brought up.
“We have known Tai as a humble, very hard working and also a disciplined young man.
“We were not surprised with his great achievement. He was brought up in a disciplined background. His father only spoke once and everyone had to obey.
“That upbringing has impacted his military life. He always respects his vanua and family,” said Mr Kagi.
