Senior lawyer Iqbal Khan claimed his wallet was stolen from him outside the Suva High Court yesterday.

He has called on members of the public to help identify the alleged culprit.

Mr Khan said he had just stepped out of the High Court and was having a conversation with some other lawyers when he was approached by the man.

“I was in mid-conversation when this man claiming to be a cousin of my former employee approached me and started to hug me and say that I was doing a good job,” Mr Khan said.

“I then proceeded to a coffee shop nearby. That’s where I discovered my wallet was missing. I searched for it in the car and back at the court house.

“It was then I realised that I could have been a pickpocket victim.”

Mr Khan said he was enraged that the incident had happened just outside High Court 1 in the Government Buildings.

He said his wallet contained his driver’s licence, credit cards and a substantial amount of cash. He had no idea that something like that could happen to him. He claimed that people around the court house had seen the man.

Mr Khan called on the public to help identify the man so he could answer to the law.

Officers at the Muanikau Police Post confirmed that a report on the matter was lodged with them.
