English-based Scott Wara who plays as a defender for English club Stoke City will not be part of the Pacific Games squad.

But Vodafone Fijian national coach Christophe Gamel said the 19–year old will be included in the squad for Olympic qualifier on September 21-October 5 in Suva and Lautoka.

“We want to include him for the qualifier, he is eligible for the Olympics,” Gamel said.

Pool of death

The Fijians are in a pool of death at the Pacific Games with New Caledonia, American Samoa, Tuvalu, Tahiti, and Solomon Islands.

Pool A has Samoa, Tonga, NZ U23, PNG, and Vanuatu.

Fiji won gold medals in 1991 in Port Moresby and 2003 in Suva.

“We have to work very hard as we have a very tough pool facing Solomon Islands, Tahiti, New Caledonia.

“Fijians can take any challenge and we are not afraid,”Gamel said.

Test against Tonga

Gamel said there are more international matches’ lined up including against 203-ranked Tonga.

“I hope the test against Tonga will be sanctioned by FIFA. I will have to see the Fiji FA if we can define a new plan.

“Vanuatu just left for Indonesia and I want to discuss with Fiji FA if we can do something extra otherwise we will be left behind.”
