Westpac Fiji Reduces Operating Days In Tavua And Rakiraki

Westpac Fiji will be reducing the number of operating days in their Tavua and Rakiraki branches.

Westpac spokesperson has confirmed that in some areas they have seen fewer customers coming into branches for their day-to-day transactions.

Adding, more customers have been taking advantage of mobile banking, internet banking and ATMs.

According to the statement by Westpac, letters have been issued to customers in the Tavua and Rakiraki indicating the changes.

The Tavua / Vatukoula Chamber of Commerce and Industries have raised concerns over Westpac’s decision to reduce their business operating days.

Comments from Tavua / Vatukoula Chamber of Commerce and Industries

Pravind Anand, President Tavua / Vatukoula Chamber of Commerce and Industries said this has made a huge impact to their business and customers were facing difficulty managing their banking transactions, coupled with the possible security risk.

“A similar decision was taken by Westpac a few years back, however they reverted to five days due to the inconvenience caused by its customers and now they have again taken the same decision to operate for only two days a week.”

Westpac spokesperson said: “As per our recent letters advising customers of the change of operating hours for our Rakiraki and Tavua branches, mobile and digital options are indeed changing the way customer’s bank.

“In some areas we’re seeing fewer customers coming into branches for their day-to-day transactions and more customers taking advantage of mobile banking, internet banking and ATMs.

“We continually evaluate the location of all our services to ensure we’re located in the right areas to best serve our customers and that we aren’t over or under-represented.

“In light of this, and after careful consideration, we’ve made the decision to reduce the number of operating days in our Rakiraki and Tavua branches to the following operating hours:

· Rakiraki branch 9.30am – 4pm, Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays

· Tavua branch 9.30am – 4pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays.”

Westpac has assured their customers that there have been no changes to loan applications and both branches will continue to offer full service including lending, transactional banking and financial education programmes.

“In the letter to our customers we also provided alternative ways of banking– we provided a list of nearby ATMs, merchant terminals and InStores (see below for more information) as well as instructions to downloading our new Westpac Fiji banking app.”
