Birthday Party Plans Ruined As Family Loses All In Lautoka Fire

Sada Siwan’s plan to host a big 49th birthday celebration with his family has been shelved after their house was destroyed by fire.
It was a bleak day for him on Saturday afternoon because the fire destroyed their five-bedroom house and a joint property which belonged his young brother, a panel beater.
“Today instead of celebrating we are forced to live under a tent,” Mr Siwan said.
“Now there is nothing to celebrate because what we hold dear is all lost.
“We were all at home when the fire started, but it was too late to save anything else except for the clothes we were wearing.”
Mr Siwan and his family have been residing at the location for the past 45 years.
Their home was built in 1983 and an extension was completed in 2010.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the cause of fire is yet to be established and the estimated total cost of damage is more than $58,000.
Meanwhile in a separate incident, a six-bedroom home in Nawaka, Nadi consisting of two flats occupied by a 32-year-old man was completely destroyed in a fire yesterday.
The cause of fire is yet to be established.
In another incident in Vatulaulau, Ba, a home belonging to a 78-year-old market vendor was completely destroyed in a fire.
In Sigatoka on Friday morning the Coastal Auto Investment building located in town was partly destroyed by fire.
Investigations continue on the said fire incident.
