Former Head Teacher Convicted For Multiple Sex Offences

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions proved its case beyond reasonable doubt in a matter involving a former head teacher charged with multiple sex offences.

This is after the High Court in Suva found the accused guilty of all charges.

The former head teacher, 43, appeared before Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza on Monday.

Prior to his conviction, the three assessors in the case returned a guilty opinion.

He is facing one count each of rape and sexual assault, three counts of indecent assault and two counts of indecently annoying any person.

The complainants in this case are all minors, aged between 12 and 14 years old.

The offences took place at a school in Naitasiri between May and September, 2017, where the accused was the head teacher.

The matter has been adjourned to July 5 for sentencing hearing.

The accused was remanded in custody.
