Man Convicted Of Murdering Wife

A murder accused who had told the Magistrates Court in Nadi in 2015 that he had a reason for killing his wife was convicted by the High Court in Lautoka last Friday.

Mohammed Samil Sahib had appeared before Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe at the High Court in Lautoka last Friday.

He was charged with one count of murder.

On December 14, 2015 at Nadi, Sahib murdered his wife Maureen Yashmin Nisha by stabbing her eight to nine times on her chest, neck and legs with a kitchen knife.

The three assessors, in their opinion, unanimously found Sahib not guilty of murder, but guilty of manslaughter.

However, Justice Rajasinghe in his judgement, said that the Prosecution (Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions) had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt that Sahib stabbed his wife the intention of killing her and convicted Sahib accordingly
