A prominent Suva lawyer who is facing charges on drug-related offences has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Shazran Abdul Lateef is facing two counts of unlawful possession of illicit drugs and one count of breach of bail conditions.

He appeared before Magistrate Waleen George yesterday.

Lateef was arrested and charged following a raid in a hotel room in Suva on May 9, 2019.

The accused was allegedly found with white substances and dried leaves, which later tested positive as methamphetamine and marijuana.

For the first count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs, it is alleged that Lateef unlawfully possessed 9.5 grams of methamphetamine, an illicit drug.

For the second count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs, it is alleged that Lateef unlawfully possessed 3.5 grams of cannabis sativa, an illicit drug.

It is also alleged that Lateef, being an accused person of a case before the Magistrates Court in Suva, breached one of the bail conditions by allegedly reoffending.

The matter was adjourned to November 8 to fix a hearing date and bail for the accused was further extended.
