Ratu Epeli Ganilau Officially Opens The Radradra 7s

Former Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Commander Ratu Epeli Ganilau officially opened the Radradra 7s tournament at Welagi grounds in Taveuni yesterday.

Ratu Epeli stressed the importance of building up individual’s character.

“Talent without character is nothing,” he reminded players, officials and those that were at the grounds.

Tournament’s media and marketing manager James Vunituraga said the founder and sponsor of the four-day competition is former National Rugby League star and Fiji Airways Flying Fijians centre Semi Radradra, who is originally from the island of Taveuni.

“Radradra organised this with a purpose to support youth development at grassroot level,” Vunituraga said.

He highlighted there were overseas-based players who are on a break and are bringing in their teams to play.

“Players like Metuisela Talebula is bringing his team from Lautoka by the name Basque Beez.

“Semi Kunatani is bringing a team from Navosa by the name Qere Young Boys. Eroni Sau, Alosio Naduva, Radradra and Waisea Nacuqu are supporting the Eiffel Ruggers.”

Vunituraga said in the men’s competition there are 40 teams competing in eight pool games.

“In the under-20 there are 12 teams and 10 netball teams.”

The winner in the men’s division will get $8000 while the runners up will pocket $4000. The U20 winner will get $2500 and netball winner will get $1000.

“We are very much excited as people of the Garden Island will get an opportunity to meet their favourite rugby players.””
