University of Fiji’s Director of iTaukei Studies, Litiana Kuridrani’s fate at the university is still in limbo.

An investigation into racist remarks that Ms Kuridrani allegedly made to students has concluded.

The student who received the brunt of Ms Kuridrani’s remarks is Filipe Bainivalu. The complaints he raised against Ms Kuridrani in mid-May were what caused the investigation in the first place.

Mr Bainivalu provided email evidence that Ms Kuridrani had called him an Indian dog in the iTaukei vernacular.

Shortly after the incident, he called for her suspension and possible removal following an investigation.

Vice Chancellor Anurag Subramani confirmed that the investigation had concluded and that it had been submitted to the university’s council who will meet on June 28 to review the issue and determine a final course of action.

Until then, the university will not release information regarding the investigation as they have stated the matter is confidential.
