Police Looking Into Fake Email ID Tarnishing School, Teachers Reputation

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of the Fiji Police Force in Labasa is investigating a case where a person has been using a fake email identification to tarnish the reputation of schools and teachers.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed to the Fiji Sun yesterday that they had received a report on this.

“We received the report two weeks ago, but no one has been arrested or charged,” Ms Naisoro said.

“We are still trying to verify the source.”

A Viliame Sovu, who claimed to be a parent and a committee member of Tabia Sanatan College alleged that the current acting principal Jitendra Chand was not doing his job and creating problems among the staff and emailed various Government heads and ministers on June 5, 2019.

Tabia Sanatan College manager Brijesh Chand confirmed that he was aware about this email titled as ‘improper selection of principal and vice principal despite applications advertised’.

“I can assure and confirm to you that there is no committee member by the name Viliame Sovu,” Mr Chand said.

“Secondly, Jitendra Chand was our vice principal, but was advised to be the acting principal by the Ministry of Education after nine weeks of school this year.

“This was after the former principal was suspended for disciplinary issues and he is under investigation.

“The school consisting of 220 students from Year Nine to Year 13 and 27 teachers has been operating as normal under the leadership of Mr Chand,” he said.

“We are suspecting someone with a teaching background has been spreading rumours about our teachers’ misconduct.”

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary of Education Alison Burchell has confirmed that the ministry was looking into this.

The Ministry of Education Northern office has confirmed that this has become a trend in Labasa where someone uses a fake email ID to complain about principals and teachers who have replaced someone’s position.
