For many years Ba villager Frank Moses Doughty watched his parents sacrifice in order to provide for him and his six siblings.

While his mother, Alumeci Nauga, tended to the little ones, his dad Adriu Doughty, a labourer-canecutter, worked from dawn until dusk. Mr Doughty (Senior) would find the time during the day and at night to dive for fresh water mussels and fish in the Ba River. He was also engaged in subsistence farming to provide fresh food for his family.

Mr Doughty had a dream to become a Police officer and when he worked he would help the family.

Yesterday, he realised his dream when he graduated with 2010 new Police recruits at the Police Academy at Nasova in Suva.

He dedicated his success to his parents and said he would help his family as he had planned. He is the first in the family to be a Police officer.

His family, from Nasolo Village, Ba, was at Nasova yesterday to witness his passing-out parade.

He said he was ready to serve the country and was eagerly awaiting his first posting. He described his four months of training at Nasova as very challenging.

“I managed to get through and it really demanded a lot of sacrifice, concentration and dedication,” he said.
