Bus Tumble Lands 16 In Hospital

Sixteen people are recovering in hospital from injuries they suffered when the bus they were travelling in tumbled along the Sawani-Serea Road in Naitasiri at the weekend.

A woman in her 70s is admitted at the Vunidawa Hospital while 15 others are at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva.

The bus was carrying almost 60 passengers when the incident happened.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the 50-year-old driver allegedly lost control of the bus, causing it to tumble before landing on the side of the road.

Ms Naisoro said 26 passengers suffered minor injuries while 14 people were treated at the Vunidawa Hospital and sent home.

She said those admitted in hospital were being kept for observation.

The driver was in custody at the Vunidawa Police Station yesterday.
