Some help at last for Cunningham Old Road resident Babu Singh, 77, who has been bedridden for the past three years after an injury at the Shiv Temple in Rewa Street on Suva.

Mr Singh has to be locked in his house while his family members go to work.

Vigyan Sharma, who is the general secretary of the Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha, which Mr Singh claims employed him when he got injured, said he paid a visit to the elderly man’s residence.

“Just to make it clear I as an individual with the help of my Nasinu branch will be providing food and assist in medical supplies for Mr Singh,” he said.

“I believe that as a religious man it becomes my duty to offer assistance in any way that I can for this elderly man who worked in the temple serving the devotees.

“I have told the family that my family and I and the Nasinu branch would bring food and buy the medicine he needs.”

Mr Sharma said he met the family and felt that was the least he could do. On the matter of Mr Singh’s workmen’s compensation, Mr Sharma said this was a matter between the Ministry of Labour and the Sanatan Dharm.

Former holders of important positions in the hierarchy of the religious organisation have stated that Mr Singh was an employee at the temple, while current president Sarju Prasad said Mr Singh did not get injured at work.
