The Office of the Director Public Prosecutions has filed a nolle prosequi (a formal notice to discontinue or dismiss legal proceedings) for Jessie McGoon, one of three people charged with a money laundering case involving $647,000.76

The notice to discontinue proceedings was filed by State prosecutor Mezabeen Khan yesterday.

However, the prosecution is proceeding with the case against Rajat Maharaj and Biren Lal, who were McGoon’s co-accused.

The matter was called before High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe.

Maharaj was represented by lawyer Tirath Sharma and Lal was represented by lawyer Lisiate Qetaki.

Maharaj is charged with 14 counts of money laundering and Lal is charged with 26 counts of fraudulent falsification of account.

Ms Khan asked to be given time to file disclosures in the matter.

Justice Rajasinghe granted 14 days to the State prosecution to file and serve disclosures.

The matter was adjourned to July 25 for plea.

Bail for Maharaj and Lal was further extended.
