The new Commanding Officer of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Third Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment (3FIR), Lieutenant-Colonel Aseri Rokoura, is ready for his new role.

Yesterday he received the 3FIR Colours at Queen Elizabeth’s Barracks (QEB) in Nabua.

“It’s a big shoe to fill. It is an honour and a privilege to be given this role as Commanding Officer of the 3FIR,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Rokoura commonly known as Rocky.

He has been working as an operations officer for the past six months for Lieutenant-Colonel Penioni Naliva and that stint had helped him a lot.

With the support of officers within the battalion and the Land Force Commander (LFC) Colonel Manoa Gadai he feels confident of fitting into his new role.

“What is important is for me to fulfill my responsibilities as stipulated in the Constitution, as well as the safety and lives of men, women and their families who are entrusted under my new role,” Lieutenant-Colonel Rokoura said.

“There will be no major changes. Everything will be aligned to the RFMF Commander’s intent.”

Outgoing Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Naliva, said he had thoroughly enjoyed his time with the 3FIR.

He is now going to command the Fijian Forces serving with the United Nations in the Golan Heights between Israel and Syria.

The handing over of the colours and handing over the command he said was not just between him and Rocky.

“It’s more about the men and women of the 3FIR who toil away every day. It’s how well they have supported my command and how they will support Rocky’s command in future,” Lieutenant-Colonel Naliva said.

“The battalion is in good hands and I also believe the men and women will respond well to Rocky and will look up to him during his term as Commanding Officer 3FIR.

“I wish them well.”

Chief guest and Land Force Commander, Colonel Manoa Gadai, congratulated Lieutenant-Colonel Rokoura on his new senior appointment.

He said Lieutenant-Colonel Rokoura had embarked on another new chapter of his career path.

“I am fully confident that as you will take on this new role, you will continue to build on the high standards and add more value from where your predecessors had left off. Without any reservations, I trust that you will perform to the highest standard, as always expected of you,” he said.

Colonel Gadai said he was fully confident that Lieutenant-Colonel Rokoura’s military training and years of experience would serve him well to be his armament on this new journey.

In his capacity as Land Force Commander he said, there was always an open door policy with the assurance of offering his expertise and guidance as they continued to build their capacities and capabilities collectively.

When handing over the 3FIR colours to the new Commanding Officer the LFC told Lieutenant-Colonel Rokoura to protect it.

Colonel Gadai stressed to men and women of the 3FIR on parade yesterday that they should be alert always and never allow the political upheaval of 2000 to happen again.

He reminded them that their colours flew high in 2000 and was never defeated.
