Bad Omen For Ro Filipe Tuisawau?
Seated far right, Opposition MP Ro Filipe Tuisawau.

A sudden strong gust of wind blew mats and tapa, and ended up covering Rewa Chief and Member of Parliament Ro Filipe Tuisawau, during a traditional welcome ceremony at Yaroi Village at Savusavu yesterday.

Some of those who were present said it was a rare event.

They interpreted it as a bad omen.

Ro Filipe is the nephew of Ro Teimumu Kepa, the paramount Chief of Rewa and the Burebasaga Confederacy. His father, the late Ro Mosese Tuisawau, was the half brother of Ro Teimumu.

She was absent.

It is understood she did not go to Savusavu for SODELPA’s Management Board meeting and the General Assembly, because she will be the chief guest at Rewa Day today.

Ro Filipe is expected to be nominated by the Vanua Levu bloc as president of SODELPA today.

The welcome ceremonies were performed because he is a chief and it doubled as a show of support for his candidacy.

Ro Filipe is likely to face MP and vice president Viliame Gavoka and the current acting president Anare Jale in the contest for the SODELPA president’s post.

He is expected to win because of the Vanua Levu votes.

The Management Board Meeting went into a marathon session last night discussing a number of disputes between members.

The decisions from that meeting will determine the future of the party.

There is group from Suva that is prepared to break away if it is not happy with the way the board handles the grievances on governance issues.

Social media posts indicate that supporters are frustrated with the infighting in the party, which they believe caused the drop in the party ratings from a high in the 2018 General Election to a new low.
