Man Fronts Court For Alleged Attack on Cop

A 36-year-old man who allegedly stabbed a Police officer inside the Nakasi Police Station on Wednesday night has been remanded in custody by the Magistrates Court in Nasinu.
Veramu Dikidikilati appeared before Magistrate Sufia Humza yesterday charged with one count of act with intent to cause grievous harm.
The Police officer, Corporal Manoj Mani, suffered serious injuries.
Corporal Mani was on duty when the suspect allegedly entered the station and stabbed him on the back of his head and his back with a small kitchen knife.
Police prosecutor Woman Constable Priti Prasad served the accused and the court with full phase disclosures.
She also objected to bail on the grounds that the offence committed by the accused was indictable and she asked magistrate Humza for the matter to be transferred to the High Court.
The matter was adjourned for first call at the High Court in Suva on July 5.
Dikidikilati was remanded in custody pending the bail matter being dealt with by the High Court.
