Team Fiji’s advance party arrived in Apia, Samoa yesterday.

The team was led by chef de mission Patrick Bower.

He was accompanied by Team Fiji’s administrator Jane Niubalavu and Team Fiji’s general manager Wayne O’Connor.

Bower said they were impressed by the warm Samoan reception upon their arrival.

“While we haven’t had the chance to visit the Games village and other venues, it’s easy to see that the Samoans are ready to receive everyone.

“They have certainly risen to the occasion and they are out to do their best.”

He said it was all about national pride.

“I know Team Fiji athletes and officials will feel welcome when they arrive here.”

The first wave of Team Fiji athletes will depart for Apia next Friday on a chartered Fiji Airways flight.

The opening ceremony takes place on July 7 at Apia Park, Stadium.
