$93K Boosts Plan To Build Lelean Hall

A fundraising drive for the construction of a hall at Lelean Memorial School, Davuilevu, Nausori, is well on the way to achieving its aim.
This is after $93,499.75 was raised at the Davuilevu Theological College ground yesterday when the Lelean fun day came to an end.
Pioneers, parents, old and current scholars turned up in numbers despite the weather to support the initiative.
President of the Parents, Teachers & Friends Association (PTFA) Anare Sailo said funds collected would go towards the construction of the school hall.
“As of now we do not have a school hall. The school use to gather at Baker Hall, but because of the roll of the school, we cannot fit into Baker Hall anymore.”
The hall was built in 1901 in memory of Methodist missionary Reverend Thomas Baker, who was killed and eaten in Navosa, western Viti Levu, in July 1867.
The collection of funds for the new hall started last year and involved current and old scholars as well as teachers.
Mr Sailo said with the current roll of more than 1000 students, the new school hall was expected to cater for more than 2000 people.
